Horror in print from the past to the present, Kindle edition

The other day I noticed a tweet from @wendago recommending a book called “Spider and Other Stories.” As I always keep an eye out for interesting horror material, I checked it out on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XT5RFS/

It’s available on the Kindle for $1. That’s pretty awesome. Especially when it’s accompanied by quotes like-

“Genuinely twisted and engrossing…may just leave you shaken for days.” – Jessa Sobczuk, RUE MORGUE [referring to SUNDAY BILLY SUNDAY]

What’s even better is you can download the Kindle app for free to install a wide array of devices:

PC- http://www.amazon.com/gp/kindle/pc/

iPhone / iPod Touch- http://www.amazon.com/gp/kindle/iphone/

Blackberry- http://www.amazon.com/kindlebb_lnd_dtl

iPad- http://www.amazon.com/gp/kindle/ipad

Android- http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_red_ddp_dtl?ie=UTF8&docId=165849822

So get out there and find some horror, or at least check out some bad ass cover art like this R.L. Stine book which also has a Kindle Edition for $5.99:

So what in the hell is 'The Cabin in the Woods' actually about?

For about two years now, a film from Joss Whedon called ‘Cabin in the Woods’ has been popping up on the radar. Whedon tipped the hype scale all the way over when he stated that the film will be “The horror film to end all horror films.” With that much hype, horror fans became frustrated when they discovered the plot for the movie was nowhere to be found.

The film was delayed and it was announced that the delay was because the movie was getting the Post-Conversion 3D treatment (*pukes*). It has since been announced that they backed out of converting it to 3D and that a theatrical release is set for January 14, 2011.

Between all of this and the news about casting, the secrecy of the plot, etc., waiting to find out what the film is actually about was maddening. Why keep reading news about something we know nothing about? Well, about a year ago, /Film ran an article that was somehow the only piece of news I didn’t catch, revealing the plot of the film. Somehow, I stumbled across the article recently and didn’t feel as bad about missing it as the article is kind of cryptic itself.

So, without having to scan the lengthy article, here is a basic, mildly spoilerish synopsis:

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

A group of young adults venture out to a cabin in the woods, which is rigged with cameras and crazy props, like a haunted funhouse.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

The plot will have to be revealed in the marketing right? While it sounds slightly underwhelming and doesn’t nearly live up to the hype that has overshadowed the film itself, it still sounds really entertaining if nothing else.

Here is a cast collage from the film:

IMDB for their names and filmography’s: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/

This is the lengthy article from /Film about the plot, which is definitely more spoilerish than my mini-synopsis above: What is Cabin in the Woods Actually About?

Finally, I haven’t read this yet, but if you’re the type to read the end of a book first, then here is a brief review of the script itself:

Cabin in the Woods: Script Review
